Sterling Filter and Metal Products, Inc., manufactures industry grade stock and custom wire mesh baskets as well as metal products for many different industries.  However, our real specialty is custom and stock ultrasonic cleaning baskets. Our baskets are often used in ultrasonic cleaning systems to clean jewelry, lenses and other optical parts, watches, dental and surgical instruments, and electronic parts.  However, our main production line consisting of custom ultrasonic cleaning baskets, are custom designed for a specific use and are manufactured to our clients’ specifications using the highest grade materials available.

What Is Ultrasonic Cleaning?

The ultrasonic cleaner, also known as a sonicator, is a cleaning device that makes use of ultrasound and a cleansing agent.  Tap water can be used for ordinary cleaning, or a solvent for removal of stubborn contaminants. As you know, industrial tools, medical and dental instruments, auto parts, and jewelry come in many different shapes and sizes. While in use, they can accumulate grease, bacteria, dirt, grime, oil, and other deposits. Traditionally, these items are cleaned using a bristle or wire brush, or some other industry standard cleaning device.  Shockingly, these methods typically leave thirty to fifty percent of the surface area untouched!  Besides the lack of cleanliness, there is also a significant waste of time and resources when trying to hand wash these products, even when using powerful soaps.  In contrast, industrial ultrasonics maximizes efficiency, reduce cleaning costs, and provide overall ease in cleaning a variety of parts from a wide range of industries. 
 
Ultrasonic cleaning baskets made by Sterling Filter and Metal Products, Inc., are used in systems that usually do not use harsh acids or alcohols. Instead, safer water-based cleaning soaps are used, making this a biodegradable cleaning process.  Furthermore, time and effort are reduced, with the cleaning time often converted from hours to minutes. Holes and crevices that are difficult to clean by hand are easily and thoroughly treated with a sonicator just as effectively and efficiently as the rest of the surfaces, whether porous or smooth.  Productivity is thereby greatly increased by allowing employees to direct their efforts to other tasks.
 
The ultrasonic process starts by putting the object to be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaning basket. It is then submerged in an aqueous solution.  There, the ultrasound generator transducer creates waves in the solution, resulting in cavitation that will get rid of the contamination.  Even strong and stubborn contaminates are eradicated by this powerful process.
 
Most ultrasonic cleaning solutions are water based, or even just plain tap water.  However, these solutions sometimes are just not strong enough for those stubborn stains.  All is not lost though.  Stronger solutions are available for more effective cleaning of those tough-to-clean stains.  The more stubborn the stain, the stronger the solution should be, which is why there is a variety of solutions containing differing amounts of detergents, wetting agents, and other potent ingredients.

CP BasketsCP Baskets

CP Baskets are constructed with 304 stainless steel, #4 mesh, .028 wire diameter and flat handles.  Only the CP-100 is constructed with #12 mesh.  CP-Baskets fit most ultrasonic cleaners.

Flat handles can be modified to fit some ultrasonic cleaners with lids and can be extended in order for the basket to hang lower in the tank.

Perforated baskets are constructed with 304 stainless steel.  The bottom of the basket has perforated material.  The sides are solid, and the handles are flat.
